What to do if your apartment is unoccupied

The current building insurance policy now contains a standard exclusion from liability in respect of unoccupied apartments.

In the event that your apartment remains unoccupied for a period exceeding 30 days it is most important that you take the following steps in order to ensure that the building insurance cover remains valid for any claims resulting from water leakage:

Failure to follow these procedures will mean that the building insurance cover is invalidated for any claim for loss or damage which emanates from an unoccupied property. This is because the current building insurance policy now contains a standard exclusion from liability in respect of unoccupied apartments. Therefore, the above steps are necessary to safeguard your own interests but also those of fellow Leaseholders.

It is recommended that you regularly check the main stopcock inside your apartment to make sure it is operational.
